Privacy Policy
This policy explains what VioVoice ("we", "us") collects when you use Chatty, why, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information, we do not show advertising, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers in the app.
1. What we collect
- Your account: your name, phone number, a profile photo if you add one, and your password, which we keep only as a salted one-way hash.
- Your messages and files: the text, photos, videos, voice notes and files you send, who they are with, and when they were sent and read. They are stored on our server so they can reach the people in the chat and your other devices.
- Contacts: the names, numbers and notes you save in Chatty. If you import contacts from your phone or a file, only the entries you pick are copied. Your nicknames and notes are visible to you only. We use phone numbers to connect a saved contact to the person's Chatty account.
- Calls: a record of each phone-number call (the number dialed, time, length and cost) for billing and your call history. Phone-number calls are carried by telephone providers, who receive the number you dial and our caller ID. We do not record the audio of calls. Chatty-to-Chatty and group calls pass through our call server so people can hear and see each other, and are not recorded.
- Payments: your credit balance and transaction history, with the confirmation and reference numbers that Stripe or PayPal send us. They handle your card or PayPal details; we do not receive or store card numbers.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, a push address for your browser or phone, used only to alert you. Notification contents are encrypted for your device, and the notification services of your browser or phone maker can see that a notification was sent. Message text is included only if you leave "Show message text in notifications" on.
- Security and technical data: IP addresses and basic browser information, used to prevent abuse and keep accounts safe.
- Feedback you send us: your message, your name and phone number, and anything you choose to add, such as app details.
- On your device: Chatty keeps your sign-in and settings in your browser's storage. It does not use tracking cookies.
2. How we use it
To run Chatty: deliver messages and calls, sync your devices, bill calls and credit, send notifications, answer feedback, keep the service secure, stop fraud and abuse, and meet our legal duties.
3. Who sees it
- People you talk to see your name, photo, and what you send them. Group members see each other's names.
- Service providers that help us run Chatty: hosting, Stripe and PayPal for payments, telephone carriers for calls to phone numbers, our call-media provider, push notification services, and email delivery for feedback. They get only what they need and may use it only to serve us.
- Authorities and others when we believe the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or to enforce our Terms; or a buyer if the business is sold, under the same promises.
Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. They are protected in transit, but stored on our servers in a form we can technically read.
4. How long we keep it
- Messages and files stay until they are deleted, or until the chat's disappearing-messages timer ends, when they are removed from our servers for everyone. Copies that other people made are outside our control, and a backup may hold a copy until it is overwritten.
- When you delete your account we remove your sign-in details, photo, notification addresses, saved contacts and reactions, and your name is replaced by "Deleted user". Messages you already sent remain in other people's chats under that name. We keep payment and call records as long as needed for accounting, tax and fraud prevention.
- Feedback is kept until we no longer need it to improve Chatty.
5. Your choices and rights
You can edit your name and photo, change your password, turn notifications off, delete messages, set disappearing messages and delete your account in Settings. You can ask us what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, by writing to info@viovoice.com. Depending on where you live (for example California and other states with privacy laws) you may have additional rights, such as to know, correct, delete and receive a copy of your data and not to be treated worse for using them. We will answer within the time the law allows, normally 45 days. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.
6. Security
We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords and access limits. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and tell us if you notice anything wrong.
7. Children
Chatty is not for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
8. Where your data is handled
Chatty is operated from the United States, and your information is processed there and wherever our service providers operate. If you use Chatty from another country, you understand your information will be transferred to the US.
9. Changes
We will post changes here and update the date above, and tell you in the app if they are important.
